Ribbon crimps are of course used with ribbon or similar wide, flat materials to finish the ends prior to attaching a hook or clasp. They can also be used with multiple strands of finer cords but do take the size into account, as a tight fit is necessary to hold your piece together securely. Place the ribbon inside the crimp, folding the end over a few times if there's room. Then fold each side of the crimp down in turn and squeeze tight using pliers to secure.
